Ex-Cell Kaiser had the pleasure of hosting an event for Triton College’s 2013 Summer Manufacturing Camp: “Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs”. Our guests included the campers otherwise known as, “GADgET Girls” (Girls Adventuring in Design Engineering & Technology), their student Mentors, and Antigone Sharris, Coordinator, Engineering Technology at Triton College.

A special thank you to the Honorable Barrett Pederson, Mayor of the Village of Franklin Park, who took a moment from his busy schedule Tuesday morning to meet the girls and join them on a tour of our plant. Village of Franklin Park

Top female executives at Ex-Cell Kaiser were introduced, followed by a tour of our plant showcasing Ex-Cell's manufacturing capabilities and extensive line of fire resistant steel receptacles, and hospitality products. We gave the girls hands-on production experience providing materials for them to construct Deluxe Marble NoteMinder™ Check Order rails and they placed pencil holders on the powder coat paint line.

While at Ex-Cell Kaiser, the GADgET Girls learned about each department and about what makes a manufacturing business profitable. Hopefully, they finished the event with a broader understanding of, and interest in, manufacturing careers. Thank you to everyone who made this day a big success!

Triton College, in River Grove, IL, sponsors Summer Manufacturing Camp which is partially funded by the Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs Foundation of FMA. An all-girls summer camp, girls 12-16 years old are also given the opportunity to design a product, and prototype part, throughout three program days. The local programs are part of a national manufacturing summer camp designed and sponsored by the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE).
