The Chicago Industrial Design Challenge

A few weeks ago, Michael Slezak from Jane Adams Recourse Corporation (JARC) did a great job organizing Chicago's first annual Industrial Design Challenge that provided an outreach to local students and manufacturers to design innovative solutions for O'Hare International Airport. Ex-Cell got the chance to present at the Kick-Off and meet design talent from University of Illinois at Chicago, Northwestern University, the School of Art Institute, and Columbia College in Chicago.

Ken Goldberg, Director of Product Development and Vinay Sheshadri, Production Engineer were able to showcase a few of our products, including our double waste stream Metro Collection unit and our best selling, vibrant Kaleidoscope recycling receptacles, and share our design and manufacturing capabilities to over 45 students.

Hank Kurzynski and Frank Grimaldi from the Chicago Department of Aviation really kept the students pepped up throughout their presentation about the challenge initiative and the new economic opportunities. After a total of 10 companies joined together and sharing what they make and how they make it at this event, students throughout this semester will be using the capabilities on display to design four new products specified for O'Hare Airport and the Chicago Department of Aviation. Ex-Cell Kaiser is excited to be a part of this and we are anticipating great things!
